Wrynn's Vanguard exists as a counterbalance to Vol'jin's Spear. Though the Alliance and the Horde share a common enemy in Gul'dan and his victory would spell doom for both factions, the Alliance cannot let the Horde grow too powerful for fear that once Gul'dan was dealt with, they would then turn their attention to the Alliance and seek to put an end to a war begun many decades ago. To this end, Wrynn's Vanguard seeks to keep the Horde in check and prevent the Horde from overrunning the Alliance in this alternate Draenor which Varian Wrynn knows would very likely spill over into Azeroth.
